Press-Release_Stand-Up-VB-2
Coming this July 10, 2010, Stand Up Paddlers from up and down the East Coast are going to gather at 9am for an approximate 11-12 mile paddle around Virginia Beach.  The goal of this event is to raise awareness and funds for two incredible charities here in Virginia Beach - Surfers Healing VB and Team Hoyt VB, as well as promote the sport of stand up paddling and SEA- the Surfers Environmental Alliance.  This is considered a paddle event - not a race.  Kayaks, paddle boards and stand up paddle boards are all permitted and welcome.

Participants will start the sea paddle at either the old Duck Inn site on the Chesapeake Bay or at the kayak/canoe access site before Little Island Park and continue to 4th Street along the Virginia Beach oceanfront.  The course will run along the coast and stay within the bathing/surfing area close to shore.  Course may be subject to slight modifications.  A determination will be made 24-48 hours in advance as to whether we will utilize the “A” Route or the “B” Route based on wind, weather and water conditions.

Applications may be found at www.SurfersHealingVB.org, by clicking on the “events” tab for a downloadable application.  All applications must be received by June 30, 2010 in order to participate.

After the paddle all participants will end up at Waterman’s Surfside Grill for some ice cold refreshments, board demos, and more!

Surfers Healing is founded in California and utilizes the unique power of the waves to calm children with autism.  This day is about getting these children on the boards and giving families dealing with autism a day at the beach where they can come down to the water as a family and just relax and enjoy a ‘typical’ beach day.  www.SurfersHealing.org, www.SurfersHealingVB.org.

Team Hoyt VB is the Virginia Beach affiliate of Team Hoyt, and runs 5K’s, 8K’s, Marathons and more while pushing children and young adults with disabilities in strollers.  No matter what their condition they can feel the wind in their hair and know that they have the ability to do anything!
