Well renowned Santa Barbara, CA-based board shaper Brom will create several unique boards for the new line of versatile custom stand-up paddleboards

Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. (December 11, 2009) – YOLO Board, a Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.-based stand-up paddleboard company, has teamed up with renowned braum_green_pintailCalifornia surf legend and board shaper Steve Brom to design a new custom line of YOLO Boards for racing and performance surfing.  The series features several distinct stand-up paddleboards such as the 10’6” Soul Searcher, the 12’6” Predator, the 14’ Prowler and the 18’ Pierce.  Along with the standard production boards, YOLO Board will also feature Steve Brom-custom designed boards made in Santa Barbara to the personal specifications of the individual paddler.  Brom has been engaged in recreational watercraft design for over 40 years working in various industry positions such as the Head Shaper at Dyno Surfboards and as a designer for Windsurfer International, Ocean Kayak Inc and Emotion Kayak Inc.

YOLO Board and Brom first collaborated on the creation of the YOLO Yak, the first ever rotomolded polyethylene stand-up paddleboard available on the market.  Made in Washington State, the YOLO Yak now ships internationally as it has become a popular rental board of choice at resorts across the Southeast and Caribbean.

“Working with a new fresh energy base like YOLO Board has been an exciting venture,” explained Brom.  “YOLO Board has the will, and is in the position to become a huge entity in the water sports world.  Each board in the surf series offers a different specialty from the surfable and cruise friendly Soul Searcher to the sleek and sophisticated racer Predator.  In addition, the custom board option brings a whole new dimension to YOLO.”

The classic shaped 10’6” Soul Searcher is the first board of the surf series and is designed for cruise paddling, core fitness workout paddling and surfing.  It features a 10” square tail that provides great stability for simple paddle cruising and also is a wonderful platform for staging the opportunity to catch that perfect wave.  The 12’6” Predator is designed for racing and gives an average to advanced paddler a racing edge over other designs available in its class.  Extremely lightweight at only 21 pounds, the Predator has a carbon fiber shell top and bottom that transfers paddle energy into forward glide movement and its sleek shape maximizes penetration over water surface conditions.  The 14’ Prowler is also a racing board and can be viewed as a ‘big brother’ to the Predator.  It has an extended waterline that creates a greater glide potential and a narrower shape that is better suited for the advanced paddler.  The 18’ Pierce is the ultimate racing vessel for advanced paddlers and includes a steering system and carbon fiber shell.

“Having Steve collaborate with us in the design of the new YOLO custom series is an amazing honor,” added Jeff Archer, co-founder of YOLO Board.  “His design work and knowledge in marine engineering is unmatched and has allowed us to produce a line of innovative, versatile boards that offer the utmost in stability and maneuverability.”

An additional feature at YOLO Board for the first time ever will be the ability to order custom boards hand shaped and designed by Brom to the purchaser’s specifications.  Choices in board design as well as color schemes and personal measurements can all be customized to satisfy every need of the paddler.  Following industry standard, a custom board will take approximately six weeks for completion upon order.
