Tanya Esparza, Organizer of the Event: Paddling for Haiti had to admit she was blown away by the support she received when she recently had the desire to raise funds for the people of Haiti. In San Juan, Puerto Rico on Sunday January 24th registration was scheduled from 9:00 - 9:30 AM. The paddle course consisted of departing from the Pinones Bridge, paddling down towards San Juan and ending at the Park Boulevard Beach. "We were expecting forty participants, imagine our surprise to have over ninety registered paddlers ranging from seven years old to seventy!" Everyone completed the paddle course, even the kids. The weather beautiful and sunny. Everyone had a great time and the final total was far more than anyone imagined!

Finding Waves 100 Miles From The Ocean… Standup Paddle Surfing In Washington’s Puget Sound

The alarm beeped far too early on my day off. I stumble down the hall, turn on the espresso machine and go to the computer to check the buoys. “How does it look?” asks my wife Lori. I grumble the usual; “it might be going.” In the last few years I have learned that predicting waves inside the Puget Sound of Washington State is almost as accurate as flipping a coin. Modern technology has somewhat improved the forecasting of waves with hourly buoy reports that give wind and swell direction via the internet. If any one variable is off however, the all-important waves will not arrive. Normally, around the evergreen state, most people have to drive 3-6 hours for more predictable waves. But if the stars align, and all the big variables come together, there is beautiful, un-crowded surf only an hour away for a hearty few.

The next day we hooked up with KB and Luke at Strongwater and caravanned to the Alberton Gorge. As we pulled into the parking lot of Triple Bridge we kicked up a whole bunch of Wild Turkeys while walking to the bridge to take a look at the water level. We decided to launch our SUPs at Sandy Beach, a 1/2 mile up from Triple Bridge. Our first rapid was at Triple Bridge with a long whitewater section and a standing wave. (Bryce on a wave train.)

TJ jumps into the Clark Fork After a 22 hour drive and a stop over in Salt Lake City and Indian Falls, we arrived in Missoula on thursday night. The next morning we woke up to a couple inches of snow on the ground and 20 degree temperatures. So Bryce and I brought our friend Timmy Bascom to the Clark Fork River for a river run.

The Saeman Brothers T.J. and Bryce began a blog of their long trip across the United States and Canada. Their purpose of their trip was to promote stand up paddling throughout the country traveling to destinations to paddle flat water on lakes and rivers to charging down class III rapids in the Rockies. Here is the beginning of their account:
Bryce paddling down a small set of rapids.
We are both Hobie team riders and have packed up our 2005 Toyota Tundra to the brim with: 5- Hobie SUPs (2- CP Stringers, 3- ATRs), 6- Hobie carbon paddles, sleeping bags, pillows, 2- bags of clothes, 2- spearguns and diving equipment, 2- large boxes of fishing and hunting equipment, a couple thick wetsuits, booties, gloves, and whole lot of other stuff. We are planning on being gone for over a month traveling all throughout the United States and Canada. In the first leg of our adventure we passed through 6 states: California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and Idaho, until we finally arrived in Missoula, Montana. While driving through Utah, we found a couple ponds to paddle our SUPs and relieve some driving stress. After a long day of driving we stopped off in Salt Lake City, Utah to have dinner and spend the night with our Uncle and cousins.
