Winners Announced from the 2nd Annual Pilgrim Paddle; 2nd Race Event of the YOLO Board Winter Race Series Rescheduled for January 9th, 2011 Print E-mail

The YOLO Board Winter Race Series kicked off with great success on Saturday, November 27th with 36 Racers from across Florida, next event rescheduled to accommodate holiday travel.

St Petersburg, Fla. (December 3, 2010) – Stand Up Fitness, a multi-dimensional fitness and recreation business serving the St Petersburg, Clearwater and Tampa Bay areas of Florida, announces winners from the first event of the YOLO Board Winter Race Series, the 2nd Annual Pilgrim Paddle at Spa Beach in St. Petersburg held on Saturday, November 27th.  The YOLO Board Winter Race Series is a four part series of stand up paddleboard (SUP) races held from November 2010 to March 2011.  The races highlight the varying bodies of water found in the Tampa Bay region and include a bay, gulf, intra-coastal and river race.  Participants have the option of competing in as few or many races as they choose and compete in one of four divisions: Unlimited, 14’ Race boards, 12’6” Race boards and 12’6” and Under Stock boards.

A cold and windy morning on the 27th transitioned to beautiful racing conditions prior to the start of the Pilgrim Paddle, a four mile course stretching across Tampa Bay.  Thirty six paddlers hailing from as far as Key West and the East Coast of Florida competed.  Top finishers in the Unlimited Division were Kurt Foster with a time of 54:09 and Bob Brodhead with a time of 1:05.  In the 14’ Race Board Division, Chip Bock finished first with a time of 48:44 followed by Thomas Larkin at 56:28.  In the 12’6” Race Division, Nick Bijork, Jock McCain and Paul Norris took first, second and third respectively with times of 49:14, 51:31 and 51:41 in the Men’s Division.  Top women finishers in this division were Sue Cooper at 52:28, Karen Mirlenbrink at 1:00:22 and Wendy McCain 1:00:53.  Brandon Rahe topped the Men’s Division of the 12’6” and Under Stock Division with a time of 53:25 followed by Garrett McCoy at 54:20 and Jim Valenti at 55:11.  Lisa Cool, Kristen Catts and Holly Amodio rounded up the Women’s top finishers for 12’6 and Under Stock Division with times of 1:07:06, 1:07:45 and 1:08:48.

The Intra-Coastal Race has been rescheduled from Sunday, December 26th to Sunday, January 9th to allow all racers to compete without having to reschedule holiday travel plans.  Sponsored by YOLO Board (www.yoloboard.com) and the St. Petersburg / Clearwater Sports Commission, each race of YOLO Board Winter Race Series is approximately four miles in distance and features individual competition.  Cumulative points will be tracked throughout the series and trophies and prizes will be awarded at the final race event to the top racers in each of the four divisions.  Registration is still open for the remaining three race events and cost is $35 per race.  Rental boards and paddles are available at all events.

Scheduled race dates and locations (weather permitting) for the YOLO Board Winter Race Series are: The Intra-Coastal Race at Clearwater Sailing Center on Sunday, January 9th, The River Race at Hillsbourough River on Saturday, February 19th and The Gulf Race (Location TBD) on Saturday, March 19th.  For each race event, registration occurs from 9:00am – 10:15am followed by a Mandatory Paddlers meeting at 10:30am and Race Start at 11:00am.  All events are open to the public.

SUP Brand YOLO Board joins the well-known annual BVI Windsurfing event as the official SUP sponsor to create the ultimate Windsurfing/SUP adventure vacation and race event.

(December 1, 2010) – HIHO announces details of the Highland Spring HIHO 2011 event in the British Virgin Islands from Sunday, June 26th through Sunday, July 3rd.  Known worldwide as one of the greatest watersports adventures, the Highland Spring HIHO is a week long all-inclusive adventure vacation including inter-island sailing, Windsurfing and Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) races, planned parties, daily water-based activities and accommodations aboard captained catamarans supplied by The Moorings.  SUP Manufacturer YOLO Board joins the 2011 event as the official SUP sponsor and the event will include a YOLO Adventure One-Design Class and an Open Class for SUP Racers. Windsurfing Race divisions include a Techno-2 Class and an Open Class.  Event activities take place as the event winds its way throughout the islands including stops at Virgin Gorda, Prickly Pear Island, Anegada, The Last Resort, Peter & Norman Islands and Little Thatch.

Windsurfing and SUP races will be scheduled daily for all classes.  Participants in the Techno-2 windsurfing class must race Techno 2 148L boards while YOLO Adventure One-Design class members must compete on 12’ Original YOLO Boards.  Boards will be available for rental through the event or racers can provide their own equipment.  In addition to the races, daily activities are available for non-race participants including kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, yacht racing, fishing, beach trips and a treasure hunt.  A kids camp is available for younger attendees.  Highland Spring HIHO is also well know for fine cuisine and live entertainment with excellent dinners planned for each island stop and nightly Caribbean entertainment and dancing.

Mistral SUP 11-City Tour- 2nd Day Update Print E-mail

All expected participants arrived at the start this morning. Mr Veltman, Municipal councilor of the city Sloten performed the start of the second day of the Mistral SUP 11-City Tour. The heat is on! A genuine competition is developing in this tour where both solo competition and team competition make a lively arena on the Frisian lakes and canals. 7 teams, 14 solo and 13 tour sports men and women are out there to give their best. The official break half way on the 2nd day was in the City of Stavoren. Xavie and Bart arrived after 2 hours and 47 minutes, followed by Erwin Janssen 5 minutes later. A lot of joy is also experienced at the SUP clinic locations. Today approximately 50 children took the change to become familiar with the new sport. It seems the ice-skating-loving Frisians have a warm connection with the Stand UP Paddle sport; their support is overwhelming.  The Mayor and Aldermen of the city of Balk took the opportunity to applaud to the participants. Today the heat was really on the numbers Xavie and Bart who are first and second. After 4 hours

paddling they misinterpreted a route sign and got 9 km (4.8 mile) off track. Erwin Janssen chooses the right track 7 minutes later and takes over pole position. Erwin wins the 2nd day in less then 6 hours. A real die-hard today was Esther from team The Wahinis battled for more then 9 hours and reached the finish in time. All paddlers will carry a Mylaps GPS tracking device, so you can follow your favorite contestant every minute. See what happened on day two after 4 hours and 8 minutes.

Free SUP lessons will be offered to everyone at the end of each day, where the athletes will cross the finish line. Starboard and Naish present their SUP boards and demonstrate ‘how to SUP’

We gather donations through our event website www.supholland.com (there you can see the total amount being donated) Half of these donations go to Right to Play. The other half will go to the price money for the athletes who battle 5 days – and 220 kilometers long to be crowned the champion.

(July 2, 2010) – YOLO Board announces details of the 2nd Annual YOLO Board Seaside Celebration scheduled from Wednesday, September 15th to Saturday, September 18th in Seaside, FL. The celebration planned includes four days of Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) inspired activities ranging from a Seven Mile Elite Race with over $5,000 of prize money and a Three Mile Recreation Race with prizes awarded for each division, a free concert by HERITAGE, equipment demos and a Silent Auction Fundraiser to benefit the South Walton Fire District Junior Lifeguard Program. Special celebrity SUP guests will include Nikki Gregg and Chuck Patterson. The family-friendly event is open to the public. “One of our original goals at YOLO was to give back to the local community and expand the presence of SUP both locally and nationally,” explains Jeff Archer, co-founder of YOLO Board LLC. “The inception of the YOLO Board Seaside Celebration has allowed us to do just that. Widely considered the spokeswoman of SUP, Gregg is a certified SUP ‘Master Instructor’ and is affiliated with both the WSUPA (World Stand Up Paddleboard Association) and the WPA (World Paddle Association). Noted Big Wave Surfer and All-Around Waterman Patterson (www.chuckpattersonsports.com) will host a special pre-race clinic on September 17th. Patterson has competed professionally in tow surfing, SUP, surfing, kiteboarding, skiing and snowboarding. “I can't wait to head out to the Gulf Coast for the Seaside Celebration festivities,” adds Gregg. “I'm honored to be invited to introduce my Stand Up Paddle Boot Camp to Florida and spread my passion of fitness and SUP. It's going to be fun!"
